Program Notes
Solace was written to honor the victims of the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church shooting in Charleston, South Carolina in June 2015. Upon hearing this tragic news, I felt compelled to improvise something to pay homage to those who perished that day. Unfortunately, in recent years we have seen an increase on violence, oppression and lack of tolerance in our society. Thus, Solace is a musical depiction of my feelings of sadness, grief, and desolation in regards to tragic events like the Charleston shooting. Furthermore, Solace is an invitation to everyone to work towards a peaceful society.
