This simple work is designed for training beginner string ensembles to develop rhythmic cohesiveness. In the key of D major, the piece remains in first position throughout. It also employs simple harmony and bass lines. Such simplicity allows students to focus on the ensemble aspects of their performance unencumbered by technical difficulties.
Developing a music story in collaboration with your students around the character Gulpy the Goldfish will create a programmatic effect which will add to the effectiveness of teaching ensemble playing whilst adding a level of fun, shared ownership and cross art-form creativity to this piece.
