Basic Lit is an easy-difficulty percussion ensemble piece for beginning percussionists. Focusing on the technique of the most common percussion instruments, this four-part, non-melodic ensemble takes young players on a rhythmic journey that requires no more than eighth note subdivisions. Students will enjoy unison playing with some solo features peppered throughout the piece. An optional accompanimental snare drum part expands the quartet to 5 players.

Commissioned and performed by the Milford Middle School Percussion Ensemble at OMEA in 2020, Basic Lit brings straight-forward rhythms with some deep grooves to middle school percussion literature.
