Solo Vibraphone Feature
Feature a student soloist or bring in a pro for this rockin' fun vibraphone feature for percussion ensemble. The vibe part includes a written-out solo, but the performer is encouraged to follow the basic 12-bar blues chord progression and burn up the bars!
Program Notes
Written for the opening concert of the 7th Annual Northeast Kansas Total Percussion Camp at Washburn, University, The Happy Camper Blues is a rock n’ roll style blues in B-flat that features the vibes. A written-out vibraphone solo is included but the player should feel to improvise. The drum set part is also written out, but it is only a suggestion and the player should embellish as needed. The bass part can be played on a 5-octave marimba or on electric bass guitar. The solo section could be opened up to allow other soloists to perform if desired. This fun tune should be played with a lot of energy and with a strong groove. Have fun and be happy!
